I mean when you get to drive a replica of an 1964 works rally Mini Cooper S, in anger, on twisties, you got to dress for the occasion, right?
What we wanted is to get the brand new Mini Cooper S John Cooper Works press car in one corner, and the meanest original Cooper we can find in the other. I don’t think this could have turned out any better, because the guy we found was the best owner and he came with the best car we could possibly dream of.
I mean look at this righteousness.
It is a replica of !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! which was a works racecar, and won quite a few rallies in 1964 in the hands of Mr. Aaltonen and Mr. Hopkirk. The former even signed the car.
Replica is a strange word, and can mean many things. This one is as good as the real thing, if you ask me, and for two reasons. First: the body is from 1961, so could have easily been the original. Secondly, the majority of the components that turned it into this replica were bought either used, or as original left-over parts. Gauges, switches, lights, seats... you name it. The whole car is patina personified, and looks like something that’s been used for 50 years, even though it’s only operational like this since 2012. So you don’t feel bad abusing it, it’s not like a museum on wheels, oh no. This wants you to put pedal to the metal, and only change gear over 6000 rpm, with a quick yank of that shifter.
My favorite part is the steering wheel, an original and heavily used piece, with old, soft leather, seams letting go now. Feels absolutely fantastic in your hand. He bought a complete car just to get this out if it...
And the driving experience? I bet lot of you have driven an original Mini, this isn’t unlike a street Cooper, just with moar noise, power and pace. Exactly as god intended.

That thing looks like a riot! A shame it’s LHD though, considering it’s supposed to be a replica of a RHD car. Clearly it doesn’t matter, or it wouldn’t have that signature!

And I should say, as crazy as buying a whole car for a steering wheel sounds, I’m considering buying a classic Mini just for the wheels on it.
Not seriously considering it, but I think they’re BBS Mahle replicas. I can’t even find any in the US that are 13” with a 4x4 bolt pattern. I think hey look superb.

I have that same shirt. Loved it. Would still wear it but my ex girlfriend decided she liked it better than I did. Gone forever

Shame. Would love to see Blipshift re-stock at least a few designs at least once in a while... I slowly go through this one, and would buy another, given the chance.

You know, I just learned that LHD Minis still have the brake master cylinder on the right. So It’’s really only the steering wheel, nothing else... But yes, you’re right.

I feel dumb. I just realized I had you mixed up with another oppo which means my attempt at a joke referring to an older post would have made no sense to you. I apologize and hope you don't think I'm a dick.

Cool. I got a sinking feeling in my gut when I realized my mistake.
I would compare it to coming up behind someone you think is your significant other, grabbing their butt, and they turn around and it’s not your SO.
Thanks for being understanding.
